Groups & Clubs

The Lenches punch well above their weight for community life. Below are our local groups — some have their own websites (we link to those), and for others we host their information here.

Groups we host

GLADS — Great Lenches Amateur Dramatic Society

The Lenches' very own amateur dramatic society: a fun, sociable group of all ages who perform around the villages to raise money for the local community — over £12,600 donated to date. Established in 2010, they've staged pantomimes, comedy dramas and murder mysteries.

Everyone is welcome, whether you fancy treading the boards or helping backstage with scenery, costumes or make-up. Email John@tookney.swiftserve.net or find them on Facebook.

The Lenches Walking Group

The group meets one morning each week in the Lenches Club car park, then drives together to the start of a circular walk, finishing with a pub lunch before heading home. The meeting day rotates each week — a Monday one week, a Tuesday the next — so most people can join in at some point.

No joining or membership fees, and new members are always warmly welcomed. For more information, contact Pete Marston on petemarston@msn.com or 01386 872717.

Yates Community Orchard

Donated to the community by David and Carol Yates and opened in 2008 by HRH the Duke of Kent, the orchard now has a gazebo for shade and shelter. It's used in term time by the local first school for Forest School, and kept in good order by volunteers — more always welcome.

You're welcome to picnic in the orchard and to pick any fruit that's ready. Please note there are active beehives in a segregated section, so take appropriate care. Contact: Jonathan Hazlewood, jbpmh1013@gmail.com.
