Social Boules event
Each week on a Thursday 5pm - 8pm, this is an invite to the whole community to come and have a go at boules and a lovely social way to meet new people. So the court will not be available at these times.
Setting up the Game:
Play will begin after the league draw and must be finished by 31st July
Two teams, each with 2 players
3 Boules each person
*a wooden jack must be used (metal jacks are not permitted) *
Standing on the green mat
A coin toss or jack determines which team goes first.
The first player throws the cochonnet, The Jack must be between the MIN & MAX signs
Playing the Game:
The first team throws a boule from within the mat, aiming to get as close as possible to the cochonnet. At least 1 foot MUST remain on the mat at all times.
The opposing team then throws their boule, trying to get closer than the first team's boule, or knock the first team's boule away.
Teams continue to throw their boules until one team's boule is closest to the cochonnet, or until all boules have been thrown by both teams.
It is permitted to knock the boules out of the way when trying to throw your own.
The team that has the closest boule to the cochonnet is said to be "holding the point".
Any boule hitting the side edging is out of bounds.
If the Cochonnet hits the side edging the end must be played again.
*During play, all players MUST remain behind or to the side of the player with the Boule. Only if a closer look is needed to determine location of the leading boule can players move towards the scoring zone and once confirmed everyone must return to the playing area by the mat*
Scoring:
The team with the closest boule to the jack scores one point for each of their boules that are closer than the closest boule belonging to a rival.
For example, if Team A has two boules closer to the jack than Team B's closest boule, Team A gets two points.
If a team fails to attend an arranged game, they forfeit the points (3) to those who did attend, and 0 points are awarded to them.
If a game cannot be arranged in the timeframe, then it is void and neither of the teams get any points
Ending a Game:
A game ends when one team reaches a predetermined number of points (9)
The team that wins an end (round) starts the next round.
All games are best of 3 in the double’s competition
3 points will be given to the winning team and 1 point given to the loosing team
The winners must send the score to the Boulesmeisters after the game so they can be recorded in the League table
The Finals:
Once the league has finished the Quarter, Semi and Final will take place
The top 2 teams from each league will be taken and a random draw will take place (Quarter Final) Winners will compete in the Semi Final until 2 teams are left and they will play for the trophy
Similarly, the teams placed 3rd & 4th will play for the plate and the 5th & 6th will play for the spoon
